Hero Honda is still the Indian motorcycle market leader with a 49% market share. Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Co have achieved 17% and 15% market share respectively in 2008-09. The interesting fact is that the gap between the No.2 motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto
Yamaha Motor India can also be held responsible for Bajaj's market share slide. Yamaha's street-fighter FZ16, continues to register strong sales since it's launch. The Yamaha FZ16 is a direct competitor to the Bajaj Pulsar 150 but retails for around 15 grands more! According to Sanjay Tripathi, Product planning and Strategy Head, Yamaha, the company will continue to dominate the 150cc segment.Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India is also fast emerging as a strong market player. The Japanese motorcycle maker has registered a growth of 16% compared to the last year. It has also revealed its plans of revamping its product portfolio with a new 100cc performance oriented commuter.The battle for market share is likely to heat up with new launches from the Pune and Chennai based motorcycle manufacturers. Bajaj Auto will be the upgraded versions of its entire Pulsar range of bikes. While TVS Motors is working on the launch of three new products, two motorcycles and one scooter before the year end.
